Staff Writer: Angelina Burnett
Entry #8

These last two days had a lot of night work. One of my favorite little bits of movie magic is the way asphalt is wet down when shooting at night. It gives the lights something to play off of and keeps the whole scene from feeling flat. I have a collection of photos of water trucks from every night shoot I’ve been on. Can’t explain it but I’m always captivated by the way the spray looks under the klieg lights. Horrible waste of water though. I try not to think about that, what with California being in the third year of a drought and all.

I can’t help but feel a twinge of guilt whenever I write night work as I know how tough it can be on the crew. But thanks to the incredibly talented and efficient Bethany Rooney, our director this episode, they didn’t have it so bad. We finished both nights well ahead of schedule and really, who doesn’t enjoy watching the moon rise over the docks?

Night Work 1/2 Night Work 2/2

So there you have it, a very abbreviated look at a writer’s experience through out the process of prep and shooting of her episode. It’s a great gig. I’m thankful for it each and every day.
